Infiltrator is a side scrolling shooter game with stealth and platform elements. It was made using Flash Develop with the Flixel engine. Graphics were created in Photoshop and the sound effects were created using Bfxr and Audacity. I created the music myself using Musagi.
This game started out as my first Flixel project. It was originally just a game that was created as a learning exercise. However, as with a few other past projects, it soon had an over ambitious scope and started growing into a monster. I eventually moved on to other projects and left the game to languish on my hard drive. Then, months later I returned to the game, stripping it back, simplifying the colour scheme and focusing on a single level design. When it was 90% done I took another shorter break from it, before returning to add some music and to do a little bug fixing.
There are a few features of this game that I'm really pleased with. This includes the enemy robots that can detect when the player is in their line of sight. This is done by attaching an invisible bullet emitter to each robot sprite. The bullets collide with the scenery but overlap with the player sprite. This allows the player to duck behind scenery so as not to be seen. I used a similar method for the camera turrets with the difference that the turret only emits invisible bullets intermittently.
Its been great to finally get this game finished and released. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and its been a fantastic learning experience. As well as learning flixel, there are a few firsts for me in this game. Its the first time Ive created the music from scratch myself. Its also the first time I have used cookies. In this case a Flixel FlxSave cookie is used to store the agent number and achievement statuses.
I'm releasing it on various portals and can't wait to get some feedback!
